The Irish Challenge was a thrilling watch from start to finish. The K Club hosted the event on the Palmer South course which took place between July 28-31. The Irish crowds were out in force showing their support and enjoyed some outstanding golf on display during the four days.
We are delighted to announce that JMC Sport Players Tom McKibbin finished solo 2nd and John Murphy finished in solo 3rd position come Sunday afternoon.
McKibbin played some scintillating golf, shooting a final round of 66 to sign for a 13 under par week total and claim the Christy O’ Connor Jnr Memorial Trophy as the leading Irish player. This achievement means that McKibbin will earn a spot in next year’s Irish Open which will be hosted once again by the K Club.
John Murphy gave McKibbin some stiff competition throughout the four rounds. Murphy also shot a superb 66 in the first round, which put him in contention on the first day. John backed this up in the second round, hitting 67 but unfortunately fell just short in the final two rounds at the K Club. Murphy eventually ended on 11 under par for the week claiming solo 3rd and his best finish to date in his professional career.
JMC Sport also had recently turned professional, Victor Bjorlow tee it up on Thursday. Victor played some nice golf but in the end missed the cut by 2.
Next up, John and Victor will both play at the Vierumaki Finnish Challenge on the Challenge Tour on August 4th – 7th. Tom and John will then compete in the ISPS Invitational on the DP World Tour at Galgorm which begins on August 11th.
Play well guys, we wish each of you the very best over a busy couple of weeks ahead out on tour.
