JMC Sport clients Erik Van Rooyen and Gavin Green will represent their respective countries at the Olympics when the golf competition gets underway at Le Golf National in Paris from August 1, 2024.
Van Rooyen will represent South Africa alongside Christiaan Bezuidenhout at the Paris Olympics after finishing qualifying as the two top ranked South African players in the Official World Rankings at number 40 and 67 respectively. The Qualifying period ended after the recent US Open at Pinehurst.
Van Rooyen enjoyed his breakthrough win on the PGA Tour last year at the WorldWide Technology Championship in Mexico and has three top 10s this season. He also made the cut at the Masters and PGA Championship.
“It’s going to be a fantastic week for me and my family. I am looking forward to immersing myself in the Olympic Games atmosphere and proudly representing my country on such a prestigious international stage. The experience of competing at this level and showcasing our national spirit will be incredibly rewarding,” said Van Rooyen.
Green is the sole representative in golf for Malaysia at the Paris Games. He holds the rare distinction of being only one of four players to have qualified for each of the last three Olympics. New Zealand’s Ryan Fox, C.T. Pan of Chinese Taipei and Paraguay’s Fabrizzio Zanotti are the others.
“I am extremely proud to represent my country but to have the opportunity to do it three times is pretty special for me and my family. I am looking forward to getting to Paris with my team and soaking up the atmosphere,” said Green.
The Men’s Olympics Golf competition features 60 qualifiers that represent 32 different countries. The field is made up of the “top 60 players in the Official World Rankings, made up of four participants per country within the top 15 of the ranking and up two participants per country eligible to compete beyond that. (America is the only country with more than two representatives).
American Xander Schauffele, the 2024 PGA Championship winner, is the defending Olympic champion after winning golf in Japan in 2021. He represents the United States alongside world number one Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa.
