WWT WELCOMES VAN ROOYEN TO ITS ROSTER OF GOLF AMBASSADORS
PRESS RELEASE:
World Wide Technology (WWT), a global technology solutions provider, announced a new partnership with two-time PGA TOUR winner and 2023 champion of the World Wide Technology Championship, Erik van Rooyen
The sponsorship of van Rooyen will include the 34-year-old wearing the WWT logo on his apparel at all PGA TOUR events throughout the duration of his partnership. Van Rooyen, who debuted his new look last week at the Valero Texas Open, becomes the eighth Golf Ambassador in the WWT family.
“We are proud to have our 2023 World Wide Technology Championship winner join the WWT Brand Ambassador Team,” said Matt Horner, Executive Vice President, WWT. “Erik brings a global presence that aligns perfectly with WWT, both on and off the course. His rising star in professional golf is matched by his winning personality and caring spirit. We are excited to see Erik’s career continue to flourish.”
“I’m excited to announce my partnership with WWT,” said van Rooyen. “Following my victory at the World Wide Technology Championship in November 2023, I had the chance to connect with the team. It quickly became clear that I was eager to collaborate with individuals who share my mindset. Joining this outstanding team marks the start of a promising and lasting collaboration.”
WWT’s sponsorship of van Rooyen builds on the company’s existing involvement in the world of golf, with sponsorships and activations across numerous PGA TOUR events, highlighted by the World Wide Technology Championship at the Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal Course at award-winning Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico. WWT is also title sponsor of the Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) Tour’s Player Development Program. Other WWT Golf Ambassadors include PGA TOUR Champions star Billy Andrade; PGA TOUR standouts Ben Griffin, Harry Higgs, Austin Eckroat, Justin Suh and Keith Mitchell; and Lauren Stephenson on the LPGA Tour
Van Rooyen has enjoyed career success on the PGA TOUR over the past three-plus seasons, recording 12 top-10 finishes, including a victory at the 2021 Barracuda Championship to go with his World Wide Technology Championship title. The South African finished tied for second at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches last month with a closing-round 63, the low round of the tournament. It was his second career PGA TOUR back-to-back top-10 finish after he placed T8 at the Mexico Open at Vidanta. In 2021 he claimed 7th place at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and 5th at the BMW Championship in consecutive starts.
Van Rooyen has recorded 107 starts on the DP World Tour, including one career victory. He began playing competitive golf at age 14 and turned professional in 2013 after a successful college career at the University of Minnesota.
